Bullying Has Gone Digital

In the first episode of ANTM the girls talked about how they were bullied in school.
According to and article in The Education Digest, a child is bullied every seven minutes. Bullying has never been as public or widely spread as it is today. The invention of the Internet has allowed for bullying to now follow its victims home. Bullies can victimize whomever they want, whenever they want. Bullies also can do it as much as they want. The Internet also differs from school bullying in that it has virtually no consequence.

There are few laws in place that punish behavior on the Internet. This is something that desperately needs to change. Not only do laws need to be passed to help regulate bullying online, but school districts need to put into place policies to punish students for negative actions on the internet. Calling a student a name on the playground has the same negative effect as calling them the same name online. Therefore they need to have the same consequences. Schools do not like to believe that what students do at home is something they can punish, but when the actions taken online by students cause them to become depressed and lower their grades, then it does become a school issue.

The worst repercussion of unregulated online bullying is suicide. The most recent example of this is Tyler Clementi, a New Jersey college student who committed suicide after a video of him surfaced on the Internet.

I believe that America’s youth needs to be educated about the dangers of the Internet in the same manner that they are educated about the dangers of drugs. Things posted on people’s Facebook now affect if they get into college or not, future internships, and future jobs. Most employers at job interviews will now ask to see your Facebook as part of the interview. How you represent yourself on the Internet is not something that people, especially children and teens, view as important. The reality is that what is placed in the Internet has a greater effect than we realize.

Don’t get me wrong, Facebook and texting are great things. We can keep in contact with people from all over the world and contact people instantly without bothering with a phone call, but these things do have a dark side. It is much easier to bother people and invade their lives when you can text them because you can’t block the number. Also things on Facebook are there for all of your friends to see. The point is to be careful whom you give your number to as well as you let view your profile on Facebook. In the cases of your privacy as well as your safety remember to be careful, before its too late.

Cycle 15 Finale

This week was finale of ANTM Cycle 15. It has come down to Ann and Chelsey. So who will be America's Next Top Model?

This week the girls started off by going out to the middle of the country and getting their beauty shots for the Vogue Italia cover.

Next the girls went and filmed a commercial for CoverGirl. This time though the girls did not have lines to memorize, but got to film it then do a voiceover. The girls were taken around Milan to film. There was a shot were they got gelato, walking around downtown, eating at a cafe, and on a dock.

While one girl did the voiceover, the other went to go shoot the CoverGirl shot. Both girls did a really good job with this. Both of their photos were beautiful.

There was a surprise for the girls when they were filming their commercials; their parents showed up! ANTM contestants rarely get to see family members while filming is going on and this cycle was the first one to have the families not only show up during the finale, but the families also got to watch the girls take their beauty shots and then had front row seats to the girls final runway show for Italian designer, Roberto Cavalli.

Jane, Kayla, Chris, and Liz also came back to do the fashion show with the girls.

For finale judging, wearing fabulous Roberto Cavalli designs straight off the runway the girls went in to see who would be America's Next Top Model.......

Ann was the winner.

I don't know how I feel about this yet. I really liked both girls, but for very different reasons. Ann is shy and considered a 'nerd', but she is very high fashion and takes really awesome photos. Chelsey on the other hand is older and more mature. She has been modeling her whole life and knows the business really well. She also takes really good photos.

I believe that the judges picked Ann because she has improved a lot throughout the course of the show and has the potential to do really well. She is also very high fashion which is what they are looking for.

Below I have placed a video with clips from the finale.

Franca Sozzani

This episode started with the girls meeting J. Alexander. He introduced them to an acting coach to help the girls show their personalities more. This is something that Ann and Jane have a real problem with and so it was a good exercise for all of the girls.

Afterward the girls got to meet with Franca Sozzani who is THE editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia.

This was a challenge. The girls had to meet with Franca, show their portfolios as well as their personalities. Andre Leon Tally was there watching as Franca met with the girls one-on-one. He judged who did the best job. The winner of the challenge was Chelsey.

Chelsey won the challenge and picked Kayla to join her. They got to go with Andre Leon Tally to a private showing of The Last Supper by Da Vinci. Then the girls got to stay overnight in the only seven star hotel in Europe.

The next day the girls met up again and were taken to Verona. They met with Tyra, who making her directorial debut, was going to film the girls modeling. It is called an emotion-editorial. The girls were at a villa and dressed in fabulous dresses and were running around all day just filming some really gorgeous shots. To view the finished product click here. (It is pretty neat so you should definitely check it out!)

The guest judge this week was Franca Sozzani. The girls found out that two people were going to be eliminated that night and nerves were running high. Ann got best "video footage" so the elimination came down to Chelsey, Jane, and Kayla.

Chelsey was not eliminated. So this meant that in the finale it will come down to Chelsey vs. Ann.

Kyle Hagler

This week the girls went on go-sees. They met with Tyra who showed them how to put together their portfolios. They then met with Kyle Hagler who is an IMG Model Executive. Since this was a challenge and they have made it harder than previous cycles, this challenge was no exception. The girls were not allowed to take taxis. They had to use public transportation or walk. They had four appointments all over Milan and had four hours to do it. They had to be back by 6:30. The first one that all the girls went to was at Versace. They got to walk for them and Ann is the only one that they would have hired.

However Ann (and Kayla) did not make it back in time and were disqualified. The other bad part about this was that Chelsey is the only one who went to more than one go-see. (She went to two)

Chelsey was the challenge winner and won a jacket from Versace.

The next day the girls were taken to their photo shoot. They went to a villa on Lake Como and this had to be one of the best photo shoots settings that they have ever done. The girls were painted all in white and wearing white and were supposed to be statues that were coming to life. They got to pose with a male model and all did pretty well. I have posted Chelsey and Janes photos down at the bottom because I personally thought that theirs were the best. Best photo however went to Kayla.

At the judging though the girls had to state how many go-sees they went on and they were disappointed in all of the girls. They believed that the girls had time to go to all of them and the girls reason for not going to more was that they kept getting lost. This really irritated me because I would think that you could go into a restaurant and find someone to give you directions.

Kyle Hagler was the guest judge. He was able to talk to the judges about how marketable he thought each girl was. Elimination came down to Chris and Jane. In the end Chris was sent home because the judges did not believe that she was taking it seriously.

At this point my favorite to win is still Chelsey. I feel like she wants it the most and she has the knowledge and personality to take her far.

Ciao Bella!

Ciao Bella!

This week the girls were shipped off to Venice, Italy! The girls got there and did a photo shoot on a gondola. The idea was that they were put in groups of three, dressed in outfits from 1500 and 1600's Venice, or the time of Casanova. The girls were all trying to vie for Casanova's attention in the gondola. All of the girls did a pretty good job. At least one judge had one girl they liked, and they were all different. It started to rain towards the end of the photo shoot three of the girls were soaking wet when they were finished which was humorous.

After this photo shoot the girls were told that they were going to be shipped off to Milan. This is where the competition will end. Milan is the home base for Italian Vogue and IMG Models, both of which are part of the main prize, it makes sense for the girls to go there. The girls arrived in Milan and immediately rushed up to their house. ANTM always has a decked out house that the girls stay in. The girls usually stay in five-star quality houses/apartments. The apartment for these girls was more like a three-star. The girls were very disappointed. Tyra showed up and informed them that she chose this apartment because it is like what a working model really does live in. Since these girls are set to higher standards than the girls in the past, they get more of a reality check. That is essentially what this apartment was for a few of the girls.

After checking out their apartment they went to world famous Italian fashion house, Missoni. Milan is where Missoni is based. They were able to meet with Margherita Missoni, whose mother, Angela Missoni, owns part of the line and is the main designer. Margherita is the designer for accessories, the future head of Missoni, as well as a model for IMG. The girls got to wear designers for the fall fashion line and walk in front of Angela and Margherita Missoni. They were then informed that Margherita would be the guest judge that week.

The girls got to wear the Missoni clothes for panel. Now when this was filmed it was summer, the girls were wearing fall fashion. Chelsey and Liz almost passed out because they were so hot. The heat in the room was apparently really bad. All the girls got a least one good review by one of the judges. Elimination came down to Liz and Chris. Liz was sent home because she complained too much.

I was so happy to see Liz go home. She was so annoying. She complained all the time about every little thing and I can't imagine having to live with that. I really like Liz's look and pictures, but her personality is what turned me off to her. My favorite to win is Chelsey. I really think that she has the maturity and the fashion knowledge to do this job well.

Zac Posen

It was a runway show show-off. This week started with the girls going to do a runway show for world-famous designer Zac Posen. However, there were other models there, professionals, who were "Zac's Models". These models were told to do everything they could to undermine the girls confidence before the runway show. This was a challenge and many of the girls handled it poorly. They let the other models get under their skin and undermine their confidence. Ann was especially effected. She almost had a complete breakdown before the show started. In the end, Chelsey won the runway challenge and received 5 looks from Zac Posen's new line, Z Spoke.

There was no photo this week instead the girls had to do a commercial for a imaginary energy drink. The challenge of this was not only to memorize a script, but the girls were also on roller blades. The commercial was filmed right outside their house in Venice Beach, which is famous for roller blading. Nigel was the director for the girls this week.

This was a disaster all around. The girls were falling all over, no one had their lines memorized, and Ann started crying. Nigel had to have a stern talk with Liz who was laughing throughout the entire thing and did not appear to be taking it all that seriously.

Chris got best commercial and the elimination came down to Esther and Ann. The judges ended up keeping Ann, which means that Ester was eliminated.

This episode seemed a little tedious. There was nothing in it that I really liked. I am starting to want Chelsey to win though, so she is my new favorite to win. Zac Posen does not seem like that nice of a person. I really did not like him in this episode. I am hoping that things will start picking up because I am currently bored with this cycle.

Famous Designers

Who wants to be a Grammy girl?

The girls went to visit the Grammy muesum to see all of the exhibits. The girls then got to meet Neil Portnow, President and CEO of The Recording Academy. He then proceeded to inform the girls that one of them will be chosen to be a "Grammy Girl" for the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards that occurs in February 2011.

The girls were put in pairs and had to go pick out outfits that they think are worthy of a Grammy girl. The only thing was that the girls had to pick out the outfit for their partner and not themselves. The winner of the challenge was Kayla.

This weeks guest judge and fashion expert was a photographer Francesco Carrozzini. He took the girls photos during the photo shoot this week. The girls were each assigned a famous designer to impersonate in their photo. The designers were Alexander Wang (Ann), Vera Wang (Kendal), Marc Jacobs (Jane), Vivienne Westwood (Kayla), Carolina Herrera (Chelsey), John Galliano (Liz), Betsey Johnson (Chris), and Christophe Decarnin (Esther).

Liz won best photo this week and elimination came down to Kendal and Esther. In the end though, the judges did not feel that Kendal had the personality and overall presence to be a good model, so she was sent home.

The photos are Liz, who won best photo, and Chris.

I liked this weeks episode. I was really disappointed though that a lot of the girls did not know who their respective iconic designer was. These girls want to be in the fashion "business" and that means, at least to me, that they need to know who is in the "business". Chelsey was the only one who seemed to have any fashion knowledge at all. Liz's photo was really good, but I feel like she got lucky. She didn't know who the designer was, but when she was looking at photos of him she saw that he raised his eyebrow a lot, so that is what she did in her photos. She appeared to have just gotten lucky with her photo. She did break Ann's winning streak though so that was really good, but then Ann started complaining and losing her confidence. Ann sometimes gets on my nerves. She is so good at modeling, but is she doesn't win, or get compliments all the time she loses all of her confidence. She is really irritating when she is like that. All of the judges tell her week after week how awesome she is, PLEASE GAIN SOME CONFIDENCE FROM THAT!

Pretty Women

Pretty Women, walking down the street.
So if you are not a fan of awesome 1980's
Julia Roberts movies
then you
probably have no idea
what I am referring to
in which case you
should immediately
go rent (or better yet
buy) Pretty Women
staring Julia Roberts
and Richerd Gere
and watch it. Go. Now.

Now if you have scene the movie then you know the iconic movie
scene where she (Juila Roberts) go shopping on Rodeo Drive in
Beverly Hills. That was the inspiration for this weeks
photo shoots. The girls went to Rodeo Drive and
were put into groups of two, except, because of their
odd numbers, Chris got to do it alone. They walked
with a male model in between each girl and were
photographed.

This was the awesome part of this episode because this week
the girls were photographed by Patrick Demarchelier.
Demarchelier is one of the THE top photographers in the entire
world. He is a "photography Master" as Tyra put it.
And if you have ever seen the movie The Devil Wears Prada,
Meryl Streeps character often asks for Anne Hathaway
to call him. So if you didn't know to whom Meryl Streep
was referring, you do now. I put a photo of Tyra with
Demarchelier at the bottom of this post as well.

One thing that I didn't like about this week's photo
shoot was that it failed to be interesting, set or costume
wise, as it usually is.The only thing that was interesting
about the shoot was that it was done by Demarchelier.
However, even that fact made this photo shoot the most
boring one to watch in a long time.

This week's challenge was also not that exciting. The girls
were put into groups of three, given a kit filled with CoverGirl
products, and then asked to create a presentation to sell the
product. The next day they went to Wal-Mart and had to give
their presentations to customers there and then they customers
voted on their favorite. This was also disappointed, challenge
wise. I was so excited for this episode because it did feature a
legend like Demarchelier, but then I was very disappointed
because it was sooooooo boring. Overall not my favorite
episode so far that is for sure.

Kasey won the challenge for her group because she was
voted as the best person out of all three groups to sell
the product. This however did not save her because she
was sent home this week at elimination. I was happy
to see her go though because she has been so mean
throughout the whole thing and no one in the house liked her.

Ann won best photo, again.

Karolina Kurkova

This episode starts off with the girls having a challenge in the 2nd Street tunnel, which was shut down completely for a runway challenge. They girls wore designs by Herve Leroux. The hard aspect of this challenge is that the runway is on a convery belt and the girls have to stop three times in the runway, stepping off the convery belt each time. While doing this may not sound that difficult, wearing ball gowns and four inch stilettos do make it a challenging. The winner of the challenge however won jewelry by SOMEONE. Kacey was the winner of the challenge.

Andre Leon Talley brought international supermodel Karolina Kurkova to visit the girls. She gave the girls some food advice about eating healthy and taking care of themselves.
For the photo shoot this week the girls were photographed in a boxing ring with Lucha Va Voom, a form of Mexican Mask Wrestling. The photographers Eddie and Moshe Brakha, who are a famous father and son photography team. Kurkova joins the panel as this week's guest judge. The results of the photos this week were 50/50. Some of the girls had good photos, some had bad. Best photo went to Ann, again, this week. My favorite photo, personally, was Chris' photo so that is the one that I posted.

The elimination came down Lexie and Jane. In the end though Lexie was eliminated. I was starting to like Lexie so I was sad to see her go. I am still trying to find a new favorite since Rihanna was eliminated, but I have yet to find one. Who is your favorite girl this cycle?

Matthew Rolston

This episode of Cycle 15 of ANTM found the models riding the roller coaster Silver Bullet at Knott’s Berry Farm Theme Park. The girls had a challenge when riding the Silver Bullet. The would be given a word or concept that they would haft to convey in a photo while riding the Silver Bullet. The camera was a camera that is seen on every rollar coaster. Miss J Alexander and Nigel Barker were there talking to the girls as they rode the roller coaster. When the girls got close to the camera, they would be told their word or concept. So the girls only had seconds, while also riding a roller coaster, to think of a face to do. The winner of this challenge was Liz and she chose Chris and Kayla to go with her to receive her win. The girls got to go to a photo shot and their photographer was Tyra Banks. The shots were for Tyra’s website. After the shoot the girls got to have tea with Tyra and really just talk and get to know each other.
For the girls photo shoot this week their photographer was Matthew Rolston. The girls had their upper bodies made up to look like mermaids while wearing jewlery by Neil Lane, Martin Katz, and Mikimoto. Matthew Rolston photographed the girls literally under water. There was a pool of water above the girls with Rolston above the pool photographing. The photos turned out wonderfully. The girls, most of them, looked gorgeous. Ann won best photo again for the third week in a row. The guest judge this week was Matthew Rolston. The judges loved most of the photos of the girls. The bottom two this week were Rihanna and Liz. Rihanna was sent home because the judges felt that she was not versatile enough for Italian Vogue.

Makeovers!

Makeovers! This week the girls found themselves getting their makeovers! They were very exited about it until they found a crumpled piece of paper that listed each girls name and the "makeover" that they were going to get. Now this list was actually a joke that Anne, Rhianna, and Lexie created. They listed each girl and a crazy makeover idea. While the makeover idea's were pretty crazy it had the desired effect. The girls were frightened for makeover day. Once they showed up the makeovers began! The girls had weaves put in, hair dyed different colors, and cut.

As in cycles past, the girls had a photo shoot right after they got their makeover. Many of the girls loved their makeovers, some did not. A couple of the girls were very dissatisfied with what happened to their hair. After the photo shoot Miss J. Alexander and Mr. Jay Manual announced that one girl was going to be eliminated right there in the salon. This elimination was based on the each girls reaction to their cuts. Terra was eliminated because of her inability to embrace her makeover. This was a wake up call to the other girls who did not like their makeovers. I think it was a well deserved one too. The panel are the people who decided what makeover each girl gets and they do not give makeover that will look horrible. I like to think that I have seen every episode of ANTM and I know of only one occurrence where Tyra had a girls look changed after her makeover. Some girls do not trust Tyra's opinion and throw fits about their makeovers. I was happy to see, finally, that these girls were given a wake up call about their makeovers. Trust Tyra's makeovers. Period.

At the next photo shoot the girls went to a beach. They were dressed in all black with feathers in their hair and on their faces. The idea was that each girl was a fallen angel. They fell because they fell in love with mortal men. This means that, yes, there were male models at the photo shoot, which the girls enjoyed very much. The girls were put in harnesses and lifted up to look like they were "falling" and their mortal lovers were there to "catch" them. The challenge was to work up in the air, in a painful harness, and interact with a male model who was standing on the ground. The girls photographer was Anne Menke.

At panel the guest judge was Patracia Field who is a fashion expert. Overall the girls did not do well at all at the photo shoot. When at the shoot the girls had to pick a word to describe the scene that they wanted to portray. Among these were desire, fearless, and predatorial. Almost none of the girls were actually able to convey their word in their photos. The photos that I have put on here are the top three. The best photo went to Ann, runner up was Kayla, and in third place was Chelsey.

Ann won best photo and the elimination came down to Lexie and Sara. Both girls had horrible photos, but in the end the judges saw more potential in Lexie.

HIGH Fashion

And let the competition begin! This cycle of ANTM started off with the girls moving into a gorgeous glass house in Venice Beach. For the girls first challenge they had to do a Diane von Furstenberg fashion show on a runway that was four stories up lit up with pink (of course ;-) ) lights. The real challenge of this was that the runway was not very sturdy so it shook and moved while the girls were supposed to be walking and being fierce on the runway. However all of the girls did fabously and no one fell, while on the runway at least, the stairs are another matter.

For the first photo shoot of this cycle the girls were put in swimsuits and had to think of a name that they were called that hurt them. They picked a "Bully" word, then they got to pick out a "Power" word. This power word was how the girls viewed the negative "bully" word, as a positive. I personally think that this is one of my favorite photo shoots to date out of all of the cycles. It was amazing to watch these girls embrace the negative and make it a positive. Demi Lovato also showed up and talked to the girls about bullying. She is a supporter of a anti-bullying website called "Pacer Center's Teens Against Bullying". To check out the website click here.

The girls choice of words were as follows:
Esther
Bully word: Weirdo
Power word: Independent

Rhianna
Bully word: Stupid
Power word: Undefinable

Lexie
Bully word: Elf ears
Power word: Unique

Chelsey
Bully word: Casper
Power word: Fearless

Kacey
Bully word: Oreo
Power word: Nubian princess

Kendal
Bully word:Lanky
Power word: Fierce

Jane
Bully word: Big Face
Power word: Big square head

Terra
Bully word: Soup cooler
Power word: Luscious lips

Liz
Bully word: Mutt
Power word: Biracial beauty

Sara
Bully word: Manly
Power word: Athletic

Ann
Bully word: Giant
Power word: Amazon

Chris
Bully word: Bony
Power word: Slim

Annamaria
Bully word: Bucktooth
Power word: Sexy mouth

Kayla
Bully word: Queer
Power word: Free

The guest judge this week was Diane von Furstenberg. The judges seemed please overall with how the girls started out. The girls started out mostly strong in all of their photos. The winner of best photo this week was Ann. In elimination it came down to Terra and Annamaria. Terra broke down during her shoot which caused her to have a weak photo. Annamaria was very confident, but the photo that they chose was one where her whole body was covered because she was too skinny. She looked very unhealthy. In the end Annamaria was eliminated because she looked too unhealthy.

Who photo was your favorite? What did you think of the photo shoot idea this week?

Fashion Designer Cynthia Rowley

"I definitely have a sense of whimsy with everything. I like clothes that are very feminine, but with an added twist. I also think a woman shouldn't have to spend a lot for great clothes; maybe it's my Midwestern practicality coming through, but I feel there's always a need for great dresses at good prices." -Cynthia Rowley

On the first episode of ANTM this year the girls got to wear clothes designed by fashion designer Cynthia Rowley. Cynthia Rowley is a forced to be reckoned with. She designs everything from beauty and clothes to bicycles and tools. She has been featured in such magazines as Vogue, Vogue Paris, and Elle, just to name a few. Cynthia designed her first dress at age 7 and has been designing ever since.

If you want to check out Cynthia Rowley's website click here.

She was born in Barrington, Illinois. She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and graduated in 1981. She then created her own fashion line and has been in the business ever since. Some of her awards include: New York Finalist, Entrepreneur of the Year, Forbes magazine, 1994; Council of Fashion Designers Perry Ellis award for New Fashion Talent, 1994.

Cynthia Rowleys clothes are designed to be fun and amuse because she doesn't think clothes should be taken too seriously. Her fun style also goes into the types of things she designs. Things such as band-aids for Johnson and Johnson. This photo was taken from ShoppingBlog.com. These band-aids were just released this August and you can still order them here.

Cycle 15 Episode 1-From 32 to 14

The season premire of America's Next Top Model started off with Tyra narrowing down the girls from 32 to 14. The girls got off the plane at LAX and went straight to Palm Springs. There the girls were told to go change into dresses designed by Cynthia Rowley, you can check out her website here.
The girls were then asked to do a runway show in groups with Mr. Jay and Miss J Alexander looked on and gave advice. The groups that the girls were divided into were blondes, sexy, brunettes, quirky, and strong bone structure. The last group really interested me and there were only two girls included which I though was interesting. There are usually several girls that have really strong bone structure, but only two girls were divided into that group, . After that the girls the girls went into to talk to Tyra Banks, Miss J Alexander, and Mr. Jay individually to do swimsuits, show their runway walk, and asked questions so that the judges could learn more about each of the girls. This interview was were they, the judges, decided on the first round of cuts.
How they revealed who was cut was also different than ever. There was a Cynthia Rowley party going on and the girls had to go picked up their invitations for it, they would either say "Invited", which means they made the first round of cuts, or "Excused", which means they did not make it. This narrowed the girls down from 32 to 20. How they decided the second round of cuts, to get it down to 14, was that at this party the girls would be photographed in pairs according to who their personal competition was. The idea was to see who would stand out in these photos. Once all the girl's photos were taken, Tyra, Mr. Jay, and Miss J Alexander went through every picture and narrowed the field down to 14. The 14 girls who will be competing in ANTM Cycle 15 are: Anamaria, Ann, Chelsey, Chris, Esther, Jane, Sara, Kacey, Kayla, Kendal, Lexie, Liz, Rhianna, and Terra. Click on any of the girls names to learn more about them.
The prize is also different this year. The winner will receive not only a $100,000 contract with CoverGirl Cosmetics, a contract with the top international model agency, IMG Models, but also a fashion spread in Vogue Italia with an additional spread and cover of Beauty in Vogue. Italian Vogue is the bread and butter of the fashion industry so a spread in this magazine is HUGE.

My favorite right now is Rhianna. She is quirky and fun. She has a great sense of style, that I have seen so far. Also when she was modeling for the judges before the first cut she said that she got her inspiration from trees. So they gave her some examples of tree's to see how she would model. They included a cactus, willow, and tubleweed. All three poses were fantastic and if she can keep up the great poses for the rest of the season I think she can win. So my question is who is your favorite or who do you think will win this cycle?

Syle Icon: Diane Von Furstenberg

The Brussels born designer, Diana Von Furstenberg first appeared in the fashion world in the 1970’s. She decided to become a fashion designer when she became engaged to her first husband, Prince Egon von Furstenberg.
